Where Can I Find Sounds To Take My Music To The Next Level?

THURSDAY, JULY 21, 2011

Where Can I Find Sounds To Take My Music To The Next Level?

"Where can I find sounds to make beats?" - Where some aspire as rappers and singers to find beats that will set themselves off on their next hip hop mixtapes or rap albums, r&b albums or videos, and other projects in the works, others are out there aspiring to make beats themselves, and looking for ways, and sounds, to do so.  And then there are artists that try to find a way to make their own beats so as not to worry about having to buy them either (though this isn't always the greatest option if you have a project pressed).  With that said, the question of 'where can I find sounds' depends on what you are looking for.  Here are some ideas:

SoundsForBeats.com - If you are looking for a variety of musical instrument sounds that you can use to make beats in FL Studio, Reason, Cubase, etc. and are looking to build ...

MONDAY, JULY 11, 2011

How Can I Rap?  These Tips Will Help Your Rap Game

Have you ever asked yourself, "how can I rap?" and wondered if you were ever capable of doing so?  Have you always wanted to rap or sound like one of your favorite rappers, but just felt that you couldn't rap at all, or that your delivery wasn't as great as you'd want it to sound?  Or do you feel like you have the talent but want to polish up on your skills a bit more than you feel content with?  Do any of these scenarios sound more or less like you or how you feel and think?

So of course, with rap and hip hop music being so popular, it's no surprise that people want the question, "how can I rap?" answered.  Hip hop has climbed up and become more commonplace in the years that it's been around, and continues to bring more fans and listeners to the table that also want to be rappers.  It's ...

Where Can I Find Beats?  Read Here To Find Out More!

Where can I find beats?Where can I find beats? - this question has probably got to be one of the most frequently asked questions across the internet for upcoming rap artists and singers.  It doesn't matter what area you're located, what city, or what country you're from.  If you are a rap artist or singer, chances are you've asked this question many a time, and with good reason of course.  This question, along with your actions to the answer is what separates the true pursuing artist from the hobbyist rapper or singer who is not serious about their work or investing in themselves either.  As anyone knows, it requires spending money to make money, and rap beats are no exception either.

If you're still asking "where can I find beats?" to yourself, then you're at the right spot.  Here at Genycis.com, you'll be able to find more than your handful of beats!  I've taken the time and inspiration to create ...

My Top Ten Rap Songs From The Wu-Tang Clan

TUESDAY, JULY 5, 2011

My Top Ten Rap Songs From The Wu-Tang Clan

Top Ten Rap Songs From Wu Tang ClanSo I thought I'd take a moment to list my top ten rap songs by Wu-Tang Clan as one of the many tributes that I'll probably post on my blog in reference to 90's hip hop music.  After all, for me, I'd have to say that most of my hip hop beats are influenced by the bangin' flava that the 90's era put out.  This was the era that hip hop blew up big time, and that wordplay was at its highest peak!  Though hip hop in my eyes and ears is long gone from what it used to be in the 90's, I still want to give the tribute where it's due, and so I decided to list what I feel are probably my top ten rap songs from Wu-Tang Clan... and this is compiled from songs that either the Wu did as a whole, or that individual or combined artists did (not subsidiaries such as ...

What Beats To Rap On Should You Choose?

SATURDAY, JUNE 25, 2011

What Beats To Rap On Should You Choose?

What are the best What beats to rap on should you choose?beats to rap on or instrumentals to sing over when it comes to your craft?  If you are an R&B artist, should you only be limited to the styles that most R&B instrumentals tend to have?  Are you forbidden to writing on something harder?  And must all R&B music be deep and emotional or sensual and passionate?  Or what if you're more of a street rapper reppin' and spittin' about the hood?  Should you not be allowed to write some deep inspiring lyrics to something more subtle and mood setting?  What are your thoughts?  Should thug rappers stay thug rappers and R&B singers not have any emotions other than sweet or deep?

The truth is, with so many different styles out, and so many different producers, there's even more of a variety out now than ever before in terms of what beats to rap on or what you should sing to.  You have producers that ...

What Is Rap Music - My Thoughts On This Age Old Question

FRIDAY, JUNE 24, 2011

What Is Rap Music - My Thoughts On This Age Old Question

What is rap music?  This question gets steamrolled over and over again, with so many different answers that one can't even begin to put together the correct answer.  Is there a correct answer?  Or is it all in the eyes, or should I say ears, of the beholder?  I guess that's what the question really is, to me anyway.

So what is it?  Some people see it as a form of expression.  If you can spit a few bars over some hot rap beats and express a particular topic, then you have the answer.  Some others feel that as long as you have a bounce to the overall track, even if the lyrics aren't all there, you still have an answer to that age old question, "what is rap music?".

So on that note, I'll probably get blasted by some for this, and maybe not so much by others, which proves my basis, that it's all ...

Hip Hop Truth - Prosthetik Intelligentz Interview

Hip Hop Truth in Prosthetik Intelligentz

So about a couple of weeks ago, I had the chance to interview with what I refer to as Hip Hop Truth, or "Fayettenam's Finest" hip hop lyricist / production duo, er, trio known as Prosthetik Intelligentz straight outta Fayetteville, NC.  Trio'd by hip hop lyricist Ezzie B, music producer B.Doom, and the ever so talented hypeman known as HIPplusHOP, this group is grinding hard, dedicated to hip hop music, enjoying creating and living it, and promoting their music more and more, putting their face on the map not just locally or nationally, but globally as well!

The interview was great, and these kats are definitely down to earth, all about enjoying the moment, and making, living, and breathing hip hop the way it was supposed to be enjoyed!  They do it for the love, for the art, and give the fans great eargasmic music to enjoy!  Take a trip with me as I ask some questions to the group, ...

Beats To Music - Turning Beats You Buy Into Great Music

SUNDAY, MARCH 6, 2011

Beats To Music - Turning Beats You Buy Into Great Music

Beats to music and how to create music out of them is a matter of coming up with something fitting and powerful to powerful hip hop beats and rap instrumentals, or any type of beat or instrumental for that matter.  Too often, musical concepts are thought of, hot lyrics are created at the tip of a pencil to paper, and inspiring song lyrics are written, but they are usually written prior to feeling out a beat or instrumental to see if it works out at all to their benefit, or if it is a failed conception before it had a chance to hit the radio, mixtape, or album.

Turning beats to music is something that can be done with a bit more ease, as long as you allow yourself to be immersed into the hip hop instrumentals or R&B beats that you listen to first.  Sometimes, you can create a very powerful music track or a ...

Hip Hop On The Radio - Is It Helping Or Killing Hip Hop Music?

SATURDAY, MARCH 5, 2011

Hip Hop On The Radio - Is It Helping Or Killing Hip Hop Music?

Hip hop on the radio - do you enjoy what is playing today?  Or do you find yourself looking for other hip hop and rap music to listen to because what you hear on the radio is just not what you're enjoying?  Do you wish that the radio had more lyrical hip hop being played?  Or is hip hop all about the club style dance music versus the lyrical "think" music that used to be played more so on the radio back then?

Remember when you would hear hits like "Renee" by Lost Boyz, or "You're All That I Need" by Method Man ft. Mary J Blige?  To me, hip hop on the radio was bumpin' back then, and you still had a mix of different types of hip hop music.  It wasn't all about the club bounce type music that is being played today, at least from my standpoint.  You had variety ...

How Can I Become A Rapper - Four Important Things You Need To Have

How can I become a rapper - if you love hip hop and always wanted to pursue it, I'm sure you've asked this question to yourself probably a thousand times before.  You may have listened to Jay-Z songs, songs by Drake, Mobb Deep albums, or Ludacris albums, and felt the influence of their music pushing you to want to become a rapper.  Perhaps the hip hop beats themselves influenced you as well.  You wouldn't be the first person influenced by rap music in a way that pushes you to want to become what you enjoy listening to time and time again.  So the question from earlier still looms in your mind, jabbing away:  How can I become a rapper?  To answer that question, I have written four tips below that can help.

Confidence - If you already exude confidence, then you've managed to get the first step down packed.  Okay, I don't mean ...

Free Soundfonts - Download Sounds For Free

Free Soundfonts - Download Sounds For Free

Free Soundfonts - Download Them HereFree Soundfonts - are they still of benefit?  Do they still exist today?  And do they get the job done when using them to make hip hop beats or other types of instrumentals?  While some think that the soundfont is extinct, or something of years past, the truth of the matter is, soundfonts are still being widely used today, and are still of great benefit in using them for music production.  They have proven to remain in the world today, even when other types of files or software has been pushed back to be replaced by other newer types of plugins and software.  So exactly what sustains the longevity of soundfonts?  And why are these sounds beneficial?

Free soundfonts have weight in being used to make tight rap beats, emotional R&B instrumentals, and other types of instrumentals or beats.  Actually, soundfonts in general, whether free or to buy, have weight in music production.  ...

Busta Rhymes When Disaster Strikes - Classic Joint

Busta Rhymes When Disaster Strikes - Classic Joint

Who back in the day was a Busta Rhymes fan? I don't mean a fan of the commercial joints that kept being played over and over on the radio, I mean that real powerful "nod ya head" style? Were you a fan of the Busta Rhymes When Disaster Strikes album? If you were, if you had it, or if you heard it, you'll know that there were some pretty tight tracks on that album, I mean some bring it to ya ears boom bap style hip hop music! The lyrics, the mood, the feel, it was definitely a hip hop music album for the ages. And of the tracks on that album, this one was one that stood out to me:

This track, "We Could Take It Outside" featuring Flipmode Squad, brought the noise and the mood to the table! Every time I listen to this track, I just imagine being there in a dim lighted club, red lights ...

Music Marketing - Know All You Need To Market Your Music?

The Musicians Guide - Market Your Music ProperlyIf you take a moment to sit back and think about it, there are lots, I mean LOTS of artists and producers in the music industry.  And with as many artists that exist out there, whether they are singers or rappers of today, there are probably more than ten times as many songs existing today, from current day music trends, to the old school classics of yesterday that still stand strong.  With so much talent out, do you think you know all you need to market your music?  Do you know enough music marketing to push your music to the limits and beyond?

For you in this day and age, the situations are pretty fortunate.  If you think back to years ago, when the internet age was barely lifting off the ground, people had to research constantly to find resources they could use to market their talents.  You would have to find lists and addresses manually, ...

Mobb Deep Beats - Which Are Your Top 5 Beats Of All Time?

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 26, 2010

Mobb Deep Beats - Which Are Your Top 5 Beats Of All Time?

Over the years, I have had some influences from all kinds of hip hop music, rap music, r&b music, and even other types of music such as classical music, movie scores, and even video game music.  In the course of hard, gangsta street rap, the beats always stand out to me.  One of the more influential hip hop groups that has impacted my hip hop beats style has to be Mobb Deep.

The grimey and raw style of beats that came to the table, followed up with some nice lyrical warfare really had me listening and wanting to hear more.  The earlier albums especially influenced me, such as the "Hell On Earth" rap album or the "Murda Muzik" album as well.  Even the "Infamy" album placed some influence onto my music production.  I mean, the lyrics were raw, the beats were simple but on point, and the marriage between lyrics and beats brought ...

Saw Hip Hop Beat - Saw Endgame by Genycis of Genycis.com

If you are a fanatic of the movie Saw like I've been since the start of the series occurred, then you'll probably be able to appreciate the theme music as well from it.  It's powerful, mysterious, and definitely haunts the mind days and years after first being heard.  I still enjoy listening to the instrumental to this day.  Are you similar?  Do you love the Saw movie instrumental?  There's just something about it, right?  Or is it really just me?

That said, I had to go out on a limb and test my musical composing abilities to see what I could do with the Saw movie theme music.  It took a bit of time to say the least, but as this movie score always impressed me and caught my ear, I couldn't let it sit idly by without trying to recreate it into a hip hop beat!  Much to my surprise, while it took a bit ...

Dark Rap Instrumentals - Does It Provoke Death Or Is It Just Aggressive?

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 24, 2010

Dark Rap Instrumentals - Does It Provoke Death Or Is It Just Aggressive?

There's often a lot of debate about whether dark rap instrumentals are just aggressive in nature, or if they call out the beast from within, making lyrical havoc occur in reality.  I personally don't think it's so much that music causes actions to be done... though some always want to blame musicians for their suicide attempts or their murder sprees.  So do dark rap instrumentals cause the same issue?

Most horrorcore rap artists are the ones that prefer the darkest of rap beats to use in their mixtapes or albums.  Horrorcore rappers are known to have a very vulgar and descriptive array of bloodshed, mayhem, and dismemberment going on, among other topics that are brought about.  But if the case were that music such as dark hip hop music influenced others to kill people all the time, would there not be a whole lot more dead bodies that would be reported all over the ...

Worldstar Hip Hop Needs This - Prosthetik Intelligentz

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 15, 2010

Worldstar Hip Hop is known for putting up tons of hip hop video content, as well as off the wall videos including beatdowns, and honeys as well.  But of course, above all, they are known for hip hop content, some of which are made of that raw hip hop lyrical madness!  And that's where Prosthetik Intelligentz more than fits in!

Just the wordplay on their name by itself is already testament to the appreciation for lyrical wordplay.  Prosthetik Intelligentz is a fusion of a dynamic hip hop (I mean that true hip hop flava, not those that say fewer than 10 words and consider themselves hip hop) artist in Ezzie B, and a powerful hip hop producer known as B.Doom.  Between these two, the hip hop nation had better prepare for the storm that's about to drop!

Right out of North Carolina (yup, NC continues to produce hot lyrical flava in the Raleigh - Durham and Fayetteville areas), both Ezzie B and B.Doom bring the music, and ...

50 Cent Taunts Ja Rule Regarding Prison Sentencing

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 15, 2010

Let the hip hop beef continue between hip hop rapper and G-Unit President / CEO 50 Cent and Ja Rule as it seems it probably never really died!  These two could beef all day and night probably.  This time, the beef is based on Ja Rule's prison sentencing that's scheduled to come up based on a 2007 firearm possession charge that was filed against the rapper.

Ja Rule is scheduled for sentencing and will serve roughly 2 years in prison for the felony, a prison sentence that was reduced from a possible 3 - 15 year term due to the fact that Ja Rule plead guilty to the possession charge.

The dispute is based on some nice words that 50 Cent had for Ja Rule about his going to prison for 2 years.  It seems that 50 Cent made comments on Twitter to reference (more than likely sarcastically) that no one had better mess with Ja Rule while he was in prison or it was gonna be ...

Hip Hop Star Swamped In Back Taxes For Over $2 Million Dollars

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 15, 2010

Yet another well known star of the hip hop community was the target of back taxes and owed funds to the IRS.  It just continues to amaze me, where there's times that I wish I was making a third of what some of these stars were making, that the ones actually making it continue to place themselves in financial hardship and problems.  Why??

Slammed with over $2.2 million dollars in a tax lien, hip hop star and icon Doug E Fresh is dealing with the issue as best as possible.  The tax lien was filed back in October this year.

This is not the first stint of back taxes or other financial woes that Doug E Fresh has faced.  Back in December of 2008, Doug E Fresh was slammed with financial hardships in the large sum of over $3.5 million dollars on his three homes as well, in addition to having suffered a $60k American Express credit card debt.

Is this finally the end of the impacts to ...

West Coast Hip Hop Flava - Enter The Self Destruktion

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 15, 2010

West coast hip hop has been a powerful force in the hip hop industry for years, especially in the late 80's and early 90's with those hard core heavy bangin' west coast beats!  However, there hasn't been much that has been coming to the forefront from the west coast.  So what does the west coast hip hop scene have to offer as of late?

Enter the scene of Marcos Rawles, aka Self Destruktion!  This kat straight out of Los Angeles is bringing back that swagger of west coast hip hop in his music, while still keeping true to his own art.

Self Destruktion has been rapping for years, making his presence highly felt in L.A. as well as other cities across the nation.  He spits lyrical content for the mind, and adds that west coast flava that has been desired since it "went to the underground".

Though the single "Smoke Out" has been the elevated track of his music, I heard other tracks that brought about a stronger ...
